“When green is all there is to be it could make you wonder why; but why wonder, why wonder, I am green, and I’ll do fine, It’s beautiful, and I think its what I want to be.”
The words of a green frog named Kermit. Maybe you remember it. I have to admit, when I listened to it again I found myself getting a bit choked up.
I’m not so sure it’s the words of Kermit that did it as much as it was a reminder of a biblical truth….
“Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous – how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.” Psalm 139: 14-16
- Why do we sometimes struggle with who we are?
- Why is it so easy to look at others and begin to compare who we are?
- Why is it difficult to see our uniqueness as a “God thing?”
God made you who you are.
You are wonderfully complex.
His workmanship seen in you is unique and special.
You are a gift!
You are His beautiful workmanship. I am who I am because God created me just so. “It’s beautiful, and I think its what I want to be.”
Celebrate.
Why do we struggle with who we are? We lack acceptance….some times radical acceptance about our childhood, parents, poverty, wealth, hair color, height, weight,or treatment by others. The cure is trustworthy information that leads us on a path of autonomy and acceptance.( See the life of Joseph, Old Testament)
Why do we compare ourselves to others? Often we sense that if people really knew us,they would reject us. We look at others we view as a success (often our misperception)and decide to be someone else. The opposite is true. Authenticity is electrifying.
(See the life of Peter, Paul and Mary New Testament)
Why do we not see our wonderful uniqueness? We anxiously self monitor how we are doing, and consume all our short term memory trying to precieve what others think about us. Our guesswok is unsatisfactory and leaves us mentally tired. We then have little mental energy left to investigate insightfully who we really are in the sight of God. (See the life of Jacob, Old Testament)
How do we solve these issues of mental fatigue, sluggish self insight, and a lack of belief in oneself as wonderfully made? All have the human right to make up our own mind. How about that……it is ultimately up to you and me and no one else. If you are not satisfied with the you that you precieve why not change it? It’s never too late to re-decide.( See the life of David in the Old Testament)
